Joy Caroon, Science EIT at South Edgecombe Middle School, had the privilege to travel to Cary to participate in Pi Beta Phi's Fraternity Day of Service Signature Event. This event was a First Book distribution that promotes literacy through "Read, Lead, Achieve" event. SEMS received a donation of 90 books for our school. Attached is a picture of Ms. Caroon, our Learning Commons teacher, Mrs. McElwee, and 8th graders Rayden Powell, Biancha Webb, Garrett Staton, and Nyasia Jones, showcasing some of our new books.

The Science Team at South Edgecombe Middle School (Joy Caroon, Shantina Sharpe, and Coleen Bevington) traveled to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores for the annual SciREN Coast Exchange Thursday evening, February 27. There were over 20 participants demonstrating various lesson plan ideas and templates that encompassed key concepts such as Water Quality, Evolution, Dolphin Comparative Anatomy, Watershed Wisdom, the Crazy Cyanobacteria, and estuaries.
