A Message from Mr. Strother

Good evening Dragon Families,
I am so thankful for the support and grace that you have shown this first week of school.  We have actually had 4 outstanding days and we have been able to work out some of the wrinkles that are always part of the first few days of school.  I want to thank you all for helping make adjustments that will allow our carpool lines to run smoothly.  We didn't have any cars backed up into the roadway yesterday afternoon and the lot was cleared by 3:15!  We continue to receive updated bus routes from the ECPS Transportation Department.  Those usually get finalized during the second week of school and buses will begin running at a consistent time.  Also, thank you for being vigilant and cautious when it comes to sending your students to school if they are not feeling well.  That is the primary step (along with proper face mask wearing) to keeping all students, staff, and school families safe and healthy!
I would like to share some reminders:
Face masks-  Must cover the nose and mouth at all times.  Face mask breaks can be taken whenever a student can step into the hallway and away from classmates and/or when they are outside and 6 feet or further from other students/staff.  We are asking that all students honor the 6 foot request even for family members in their own household while on campus.
Reporting & staying home- Please remember to contact the school if your child is experiencing any Covid like symptoms and/or if they tested positive and keep them at home.  Additionally, if anyone in the household is Covid positive or awaiting Covid test results, students should not attend school until a negative result is received or the quarantine period is over for the infected family member.  Please communicate all quarantine/isolation cases to the school so we can make sure that we are providing coursework for the absent student on Google Classroom, but most importantly ensure that we are following through with our health and safety protocols.  Please also know that the expectation of communication is mutual.  If there is ever anything that you need to be aware of you will hear it directly from me.  I believe in open, honest, and transparent 2-way communication.
Carpool lines:  Please follow the directions of staff and pull as far forward as you can.  Never stop in the first curve of the carpool lane to drop students off.  As I stated above, pickup is much improved.  We can continue to improve the drop-off line by pulling up farther so traffic does not backup into the road.
Uniforms-  ECPS BOE policy requires school uniforms at SEMS.  The only acceptable uniform attire is:  SEMS T-shirts of any color or orange, blue, or white solid polos.  Pants/shorts/skirts that are navy blue or khaki in color.  Leggings/tights are not part of the school uniform.  All students should be in full uniform by Monday, August 30.
Dress down Friday-  Participating students will pay either $1 for wearing one non-uniform top or bottom or $2 for wearing both non-uniform top and bottom.  A staff member will collect the money and mark the student upon arrival.  Students can wear any school appropriate tops or bottoms (if you have to ask if it is appropriate, you probably shouldn't wear it).  Students can wear athletic type pants (sweatpants, shorts). Jeans with rips, tears. holes can be worn as long as no skin is showing above the knee.  All funds go to Relay for Life, The United Way, and Student/Staff needs.
Chromebooks-  Please remind your student to charge the chromebook each evening AND bring it back to school the following day.
Food drive- ITSDOABLE, INC.  will be hosting a food and school supply drive on our campus this Saturday starting at 9:00 am.  See flyer below!
Thank you for your continued support of SEMS!  I am always proud to be a Dragon!
Looking forward to a great Friday and end to our week.....
